San Francisco State College "Staters" football team

With two new coaches, practically nowhere to practice, and twenty men who had never played college football, San Francisco "Staters" were still satisfied with their one victory, one tie, and six defeats in fall 1935. San Francisco State played its first football game in 1932. Athletics was established the same year that San Francisco State Teachers College became San Francisco State College, as curriculum-based training for future high school coaches. Dean of Men Dave Cox started an expansion project to lease the Old Recreation Ball Park, the campus supplied lumber, and students employed by the National Youth Administration started work on what would become Roberts Stadium.
