Photograph of John "Johnny" Mathis breaking campus high jump record as a sophomore at San Francisco State College. In 1954, John "Johnny" Mathis enrolled at San Francisco State College with the intention of being an English and Physical Education teacher. While here, Mathis set a high jump record of 6’-5 1/2" in a track meet against University of Nevada in May of 1955.
