"All night disarmament vigil" from the "1962 Franciscan" yearbook (page 99)
About This Item
Photograph of San Francisco State College students during an all night vigil for nuclear disarmament in fall 1961. The same year, faculty and students formulated a "Philosophy Statement on Student Activities," stating students should have all the rights and responsibilities of adults and citizens to participate in university and community affairs. The issues and concerns raised in this document became an underlying tenet for University of California, Berkeley’s Free Speech Movement.
