Photographic spread of San Francisco State College's Air Force ROTC (established in September of 1951) to provide a trained reserve of Air Force officers as a part of the college curriculum. AROTC provided a basic two-year military training course followed by a two-year advanced course making participants eligible for a commission in the Air Force Reserve. Under the command of Lt. Colonel John K. Hardy, San Francisco State had 439 cadets.
