“James Keating, State Flash” from the “1943 Franciscan” yearbook, page 90
About This Item
Photograph of James Keating at the Olympic Club Indoor Championships held at the Civic Auditorium on March 12, 1943. As the war progresses, men’s athletics diminished dramatically. Keating at this point was in the Marine Corp Reserve and competed under the auspices of the San Francisco State Naval Reserve track team. Later Keating was the one man that SF State entered in the Stanford Invitational Meet, where he came in a close second to national champion Peyton Jordan (1917-2009) in the 100-yard dash; Jordan went on to coach the 1968 United States Olympic track and field team.
