Photograph of Gater mascots unmasked. San Francisco State College has official letter of the college is a gold "S" on a purple background. The College's mascot at this time was a golden alligator and our competitive teams were known as the "Golden Gaters", to combine the mascot with the City of San Francisco at the Golden Gate. Those who donned the mascot attire were sworn to secrecy; here the Alligator Twins entertain during Homecoming Week 1953.
