Michelangelo Merisi da CARAVAGGIO (1573 - 1610): This Madonna is believed to have been made for Luigi Carafa Colonna for his family chapel in San Domenico Maggiore. The subject is intened to celebrate the victory of his father (Marcoantonio Colonna) over the Turks in 1571.
