Juan de HERRERA (1530 - 1597): The huge rectangular building has four similar facades. The building was many times rebuilt: first bythe Lopez de Alaya family from 1444-1464, then in the 16th century for Phillip II by Alonso de Covarrubias and Juan de Herrera. .It was badly damaged during Spanish Civil War and It is being reconstructed in the early 21st c.
