About This Item
VUCHETICH (active 1960s - ): This giganctic monument commemorates the heroic Russian defence against the unsuccessful German attack on Stalingrad (now Volgograd). The seige lasted from the summer of 1942 to February 2, 1943. Axis casualties are believed to have been over 800,00, with Russian loses over a million soldiers in addition to many civilian casualties.
