Jean-Auguste-Dominique INGRES (1780 - 1867): Commissioned by Alexander II the future Czar of Russia during a visit to Italy in 1840. Ingres included the saints Alexander and Nicolai (the patron saints of Alexander II and of his father Czar Nicholas I) on either side of the Virgin.
