About This Item
Karl ROSSI (1775-1849): Rossi designed the Palace Square (1819) and the General Staff Building (1820-1827). The Chariot of Glory atop the triumphal arch which connects the two wings of the General Staff Building was designed by Demut-Malinovsky and Pimenov (1827-1829). The Alexander Column was designed by de Montferrand and was erected in 1834 to commemorate Russia's victory in the War of 1812 against Napoleon.
