About This Item

Aleksandr BRYULLOV (1798-1877): Originally the formal sitting-room of Empress Maria Alexandrovna (wife of Alexander II). Designed by Bryullov after the fire of 1837. The walls were originally covered with white stucco highlighted with gilding but were changed to gold coverings between 1850 and 1880. The blue fabric of the armchairs and curtains was chosen by Stakenschneider.
