ETRUSCAN Anonymous: This parapet flanked the steps leading to the platform of the altar of the Tumulus 2 of the Sodo. The sculpted parapet features a kneeling man sinking a dagger into the belly of a crouching female sphynx or lioness. This scene symbolizes the struggle between death as represented by the mythical beast and humans. The human aristocrat will ultimately overcome the beast and become heroized.
