Auxum stelae field. Stele of King Ezana. Detail of base.
About This Item
ETHIOPIAN AXUMITE Anonymous (c. 100 BCE - c. 700): The stele is 23 meters high and is carved with a door and nine windows. The stele is not set straight upon the base. There was concern that it would eventually fall, but measurements indicate that it was probably constructed this way.
