GREEK LATE CLASSICAL Anonymous (active c. 410 BCE - c. 370 BCE): Cyrene was the daughter of the naiad Creusa and the Lapith king Hypseus. She wrestled a lion which was attacking her father's sheep. The god Apollo saw this and immediately fell in love with her. He carried her off to North Africa, where he built her a city. Their son was Aristaeus. The fountain named for her is next to the Temple of Apollo.
