About This Item

ROMAN PROVINCIAL Anonymous (active c. 300 BCE - 500 CE): The mosaic (c. 100-199) is from the Roman villa at Dar Buk-Ammarah. Called the Amphitheater mosaic because of the scenes of gladiators, hunts, executions, and other arena events surrounding the central panel. The Capitoline Venus (c. 117-138) was found in the Hadrianic Baths at Leptis Magna in 1924.
