GREEK ARCHAIC Anonymous (700 BCE - 480 BCE ): The youth shown is an athlete. Suspended from his wrist is an aryballos (oil flask) which would have contained oil used in the bath after exercise. He holds a pomegranate; a fruit associated with both fertility and death; possibly meaning he had reached puberty before his death.
