Matara (Metera). Tunnel.
About This Item
ETHIOPIAN AXUMITE Anonymous (c. 100 BCE - c. 700): The stonework is most carefully done here. A staircase leads to an underground corridor which legend says originally went all the way to Axum which is hundreds of kilometers away. Modern archaeologists think the tunnel originally led to a large underground tomb.
