ROMAN IMPERIAL Anonymous (14 BCE - 284 CE): Ptolemais was founded during the Hellenistic era and became a Roman city in 96 CE. In the late 3rd century, it became the capital of Libya Pentapolis and remained so until the 6th century, after which it declined.
