ETRUSCAN Anonymous: This sarcophogus features a couple reclining together on a banquet couch- this illustrates a feasting custom that was local to Etruria. The high forehead and oblique smile of the figure lacks excessive details but is comprised of elegant and precise curves that define volume and create vibrant facial expressions. This style is derived from a Greek Ionian influence. This image reflects the dining customs of Etruria where wives participated in feasts as equals to their husbands- a custom that was not shared by Greek culture.
