PHOENICIAN Anonymous (active c. 1500 BCE - 64 BCE): The umbo of this clam shell (Tidacna squamosa) was carved in the form of a female head with the natural form of the shell resembling a windblown cloak. The border of the shell is carved with sphinxes and lotus flowers. The container was probably made in the Syro-Palestinian region and imported to Etruria through a flourishing trade during the Orientalizing period. It was found in Vulci
