ROMAN REPUBLICAN Anonymous: During the Roman era; votive offerings were often thrown into bodies of water such as lakes; springs; and wells. One cup is inscribed with the route of a pilgrim traveling from Gades (Cadiz; Spain) to Rome (reproduced in a single plaque below the cups).
