ETHIOPIAN ZAGWE DYNASTY Anonymous: Notice that the columns are close together in the corner and are wider at the base. The architect utilized features that would strengthen a freestanding building in this a rock-cut structure. It is thought that the church was intended as a copy of the Tsion Maryam church in Axum.
