About This Item
ITALIAN PROTO-RENAISSANCE Anonymous: The diptych depicts Saint Francis receiving the stigmata on the left and an angel crowning Saints Cecilia and Valerian with floral wreaths on the right. Probably made for Delphine de Signe who was married to Elzear de Sabran. They belonged to the lay Third Order of the Franciscans and took vows of chastity like the early Christian martyrs Cecilia and Valerian.
