Postnik YAKOVLEV (act. c. 1550-1562): The central church was built under Ivan IV (r 1533-84) in 1553-54 to commemorate the taking of Kazan on the eve of the feast of the Intercession in 1552. In 1555-61 Postnik and Barma built 8 churches around this church. In 1588 a tenth church was added over the grave of Basil the Blessed. Ornamental domes were added over the chapels in 1593.
