MESOPOTAMIAN Anonymous: The glass technique of cast mosaic was invented in Mesopotamia c. 1500 BCE. Cut segments of monochrome or polychrome mosaic canes (rods) were placed in a shaped mold. The glass was heated until the pieces fused. The mold was removed and the vessel was polished and ground. This piece was originally red; yellow; blue; and white.
