BRITISH Anonymous: Covent Garden has been an important London center of shopping & entertainment since the 17th century. The fruit and vegetable market was established there in 1649. During the 18th century many theaters were built there including the Royal Opera house which was originally a theater. Today street entertainers and chic shops and restaurants continue to draw crowds of people to this vibrant center.
