Kathleen COHEN (1933-): In the 1630s the 4th Earl of Bedord commissioned Inigo Jones to design a residential square on the site of the old 'convent garden' which became Covent Garden. He based his design on the Piazza of Livorno in Italy. The site later became a market and entertainment center which it remains. 18th and 19th century building are apparent on the square.
