SUDANESE Anonymous: From the Sudan comes domestic furniture woven from vegetable fibres, arms including the typical F-shaped knife thrown at the hocks of enemy horses and also the horse's harness and the complete heavy armour of the DERVISH warriors found at Agordat. The DERVISH were the followers of a Sudanese islamic and political sect who valiantly opposed European penetration into Africa. They were defeated in December 1893 by the Italian troops at Agordat the stronghold of Eritrea. Western Sudan is represented by a collection of items of the HAUSA warriors of northern Nigeria, a former British colony.'
