Narga Sellase Monastery. Moses receiving the law.
About This Item
ETHIOPIAN 2ND GONDARINE STYLE Anonymous (c. 1730 - 19th c): The painting shows Moses before the burning bush, receiving the law and preaching to his people on the top register. The arc that was supposedly brought to Ethiopia contains the original tablets Moses received. The lower register shows Jacob's ladder and the mourning over Able. This Old testament scene is probably meant as a prototype for the lamentation over the body of Christ.
