Palace of Mentewab (1730-1799).General view.
About This Item
ETHIOPIAN GONDARINE Anonymous: The flat timbered roof, the numerous recessed archways, and the stone-framed windows reflect the influences of Portuguese and Indian art. The rounded tower is Portuguese in style. The palace, which is 350 square meters, was in bad condition because of the deterioration of the lime mortar used in its walls. Extensive restoration work was begun by the World Monuments fund, but much remains to be done.
