RENAISSANCE Anonymous: Daughter of Lorenzo de' Medici, she married Henri II of France. She was mother of Charles IX, Francois II, and Henri III, serving as regent during the minority of Charles IX. Violently anti-protestant, she played an important role in the Massacre of st. Bartholemew.
