ITALIAN RENAISSANCE Anonymous (c. 1400 - 1550): The story of the lovers Hero and Leander is depicted. The two lived on opposite sides of Hellespont; the strait separating Asia and Europe. Every night Leander swam to visit Hero in her tower. When Leander was drowned in a storm; Hero threw herself into the sea in despair and also drowned.
