In this course we will examine the social, political and
cultural presence of Latinas in the United States. We will explore intersecting issues of race, class,
and gender in the lives of Latinas in the context of their homes, communities,
workplaces, and in politics. We
will also look at the experiences of Mexican, Central American and Caribbean
immigrant women. The course will
provide students with an opportunity to read and discuss literature (both
fiction and non-fiction) written by and about Latinas. The course is structured
as a seminar in which students are expected to read and discuss all
required reading materials.
