Seminar in the counseling of communicatively disordered individuals and their families. Emphasis on various counseling theories and methods as they apply to the unique disorder. Experiential opportunities for analyzing individual counseling processes.
This course is intended to (a) provide the student with a broad overview of contemporary counseling issues and (b) relate these issues to the speech and hearing clinician. In addition, family systems and how they are affected by the presence of a communication disorder will be investigated. The course will involve formal lectures and group discussion. For the discussions to work, the assigned readings must be completed.
