LIBYAN Anonymous: Shaykh Umar al Mukhtar was a leader of the Sanusi religious order who fought against Italian colonialists in the Second Italo-Sanusi War (1923-1931) in Cyrenaica. Al Mukhtar was captured and hanged by the Italians in 1931 ending the resistance.
