Benjamin Henry LATROBE (1766 - 1820): The Rotunda was built under Bulfinch and expanded under Walter. In the center of the dome is The Apotheosis of Washington (1865) by Constantino Brumidi. Below the windows is the Frieze of American History (1878-1889) designed by Brumidi and painted in grisaille.
