ETRUSCAN Anonymous: This statue was found in a sanctuary dedicated to a divinity of death and fertitlity in Cannicella Orvieto. The image was adapted from the Greek kouros- which depicts a standing nude youth- to represent female fertility. Female nudity is rare in contemporary Greek sculpture and was probably depicted at the request of a local cult.
