ETRUSCAN Anonymous: This head is the only surviving portion of a statue of Hermes that was one of four statues that adorned the roof of the Sanctuary of Potonaccio in Veii. The group of statues told the story of the battle between Apollo and Herkales for the Ceryenian hind. Hermes was a messenger god and the winged hat that he wears characterizes his swiftness.
