ETRUSCAN Anonymous: This sarcophagus was derived from Caere and was constructed in four separate pieces and joined together. This sarcophagus was meant to hold bones rather than ashes and it is more representational than functional. The sarcopahgus portrays a couple reclining together on a banqueting couch (kline.) The practice of a couple reclining together while feasting is a custom that was local to Etruria.
