ETRUSCAN Anonymous: This sarocphagus represents a transition in Etruscan funerary art. The funerary decoration of the fifth century follows a pattern in which the sarcophagus consists of a hut shaped urn that features architectural influence. The lid of the urn is decorated with a likeness of the deceased and the walls of the box of the urn are decorated with figured friezes in relief. The sarcophagi of the fifth century and the final centuries of Etruscan civilization depict the deceased in a lying position with a motionless body and a lifeless face. This depiction is a contrast from earlier Etruscan funerary containers that depicted the deceased as participating in lively feasts.
