We propose to present a two hour panel discussion about the present corporate trends in higher education. We will argue that the corporate approach to education replaced the traditional view of higher education. The ground was unwittingly prepared for corporate education by the very depth and intensity of the critique of what was then traditional education. That critique of traditional education came from opposition to racism, sexism, colonialism and was partially successful in transforming the academy. But that critique could not have anticipated the neo-liberal trends in society that began to take hold in the mid-seventies. For those who would carry on the legacy of the strike, if for no other reason than to honor the sacrifices made by a large number of students, faculty and staff, we need to revive and re-think the critique of higher education that was implicit in the strike. http://ethnicstudies.sfsu.edu
