Richard Oakes Reads American Indian Proclamation on Vista Pier

KRON-TV News footage from November 9th 1969 featuring scenes of Mohawk activist and San Francisco State student Richard Oakes reading a proclamation to reporters with Al Miller (Seminole activist) about the American Indian occupation of Alcatraz, which is about to begin. Also includes views of Oakes singing on Vista Pier, swimming with others from the Monte Cristo yacht towards Alcatraz and of Adam Fortunate Eagle returning to Vista Pier on the Monte Cristo, declaring that: "American Indians have secured the island of Alcatraz!" Note: this 16mm film print was transferred in 4K (4096 x 2970) using a Lasergraphics ScanStation film scanner, in November 2021. Film shrinkage was measured in Nov. 2021 at 0.28%. The film print is in the Special Collections vault.
