Lawrence W. Swan. 1954. Professor of Biology. Ph.B. (1942) University of Wisconsin; MA (1947) Ph.D. (1952) Stanford University. Born and raised in Darjeeling in Northern Indian, Swan was an ecologist, mountaineer focused on the Himalayans in a lifelong quest for Yete, jumping spiders, and the springtail fly. Swan participated in several international expedition. Swan taught at SF State for over thirty years. Swan originated KQED TV’s first children’s science program Science in our World. He produced about 250 live educational television programs reaching over 600,000 school children.
