About This Item
KPIX news footage from May 9th 1967 with Ben Williams featuring scenes of a property owner (Mrs. Leitha Blick) being evicted from her thrift store on 7th Street in West Oakland by Bay Area Rapid Transport District (BART), which is planning to build a railway line and West Oakland BART station in that neighborhood. Includes an interview with the owner, views of the neighborhood and an interview with a BART representative. It should be noted that Ch.5's TV reportage of this eviction was cited the next day by a West Oakland resident at the U.S Senate Committee hearing about the relative impact of the Federal Poverty Program on Bay Area communities, at the Bayview Community Center in San Francisco. The title of this report in the original Ch.5 KPIX-TV news shot log was: "BARTD Ouster." Opening graphic designed by Carrie Hawks.
