MEDIEVAL Anonymous (400-1500): Quill pens were made from feathers of geese or swans. The end of the feather (nib) was cut with a slit in the middle to allow ink to flow smoothly to the tip. The appearance of a script was partly dependent upon the shape and the angle of the nib.
