Race - The Power of an Illusion: The Story We Tell (Updated over a year ago)
The second episode of the “Race- The Power of an Illusion” series explores the history and evolution of race from the origin of the idea in the European conquest of the New World and the American slave system, through the mid-19th century when race became the accepted wisdom backed by popular culture, up to the 20th century where race was used to rationalize the deep social inequalities which existed as natural. With commentary by professional historians, this episode posits that the evolution of the idea of race is deeply tied to the development of the United States.
