Construction activity on the San Francisco State University campus following the demolition of the Commons complex in early 1973. A front-end loader and dump truck are shown excavating a trench while workers guide utility lines or foundation preparation. The site previously contained the Commons building and nearby student organization huts. The area was cleared during winter break to prepare for the construction of the new Student Union, later completed in October 1975 and renamed the Cesar Chavez Student Center in 1994.
